What we do

Club Thorne Colliery is more than just a football club. We are a community hub – a place where people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities can come together, feel welcome, and be part of something meaningful.

We provide opportunities both on and off the pitch. From our senior sides to our Mini Bees and junior teams, we offer pathways for players to learn, grow, and enjoy the game in a safe and supportive environment.

But our commitment goes beyond football. We work to develop confidence, teamwork, and leadership – qualities that stay with people far beyond matchday. We are proud to represent Thorne. Our ground, our volunteers, our players, and our supporters reflect the heart of the community. We collaborate with local businesses, schools, and organisations to create positive experiences and open doors for young people and families.

Whether it’s offering coaching, hosting community events, or simply providing a space where people can connect, Club Thorne Colliery is here to make a difference. We would welcome the opportunity to work with like-minded organisations to deliver partnership programmes to extend the scope and scale of the football clubs work.

We are supporting local young people aged 14-18 by helping them develop key employability skills. The project focuses on CV writing, interview preparation, workplace confidence, and understanding what employers are looking for. Our aim is to help teenagers feel ready for working life and to improve their opportunities for education, apprenticeships, and employment.

We run holiday camps for children who receive free school meals, providing a safe, supportive environment during school holidays. The programme offers fun activities, sport, and a nutritious meal each day, helping to ease the pressure on families during half-term breaks. Our aim is to ensure every child has the chance to stay active, socialise, and enjoy positive experiences outside of school.

We are delivering dedicated sports sessions for women and girls in our community, supported by Sport England. The aim is to provide a welcoming, inclusive environment where participants can be active, build confidence, develop skills, and enjoy the social benefits of sport. These sessions are designed to encourage lifelong participation and remove barriers that may have previously prevented women and girls from getting involved.

Mini Bees is where the love of football begins. Designed for ages 3-6, our sessions are fun, friendly, and full of energy – helping children make friends, learn new skills, and build confidence on and off the pitch. It’s all about enjoyment, encouragement, and creating a positive first football experience.

Volunteers

Our volunteers form the foundation of Club Thorne Colliery. Made up entirely of individuals from the local area, they play a vital role in every aspect of club operations. Whether it’s coaching, administration, hospitality, matchday organisation, or the maintenance of our facilities, their dedication ensures the club remains active, accessible, and deeply rooted in the community. We are grateful for their continued commitment, without which the club could not function.
