Club Thorne Colliery made three changes from last week’s defeat at Dearne, with Ben Stobart, Louis Seddons and Reiss Harrison returning to the starting XI.

The hosts came into the fixture looking to bounce back in the league following that loss, but with confidence restored after a positive midweek County Cup victory over Albion Sports, a game that saw eight U21 players feature.

Louth Town arrived at the Chesterfield Poultry Ground enduring a difficult start to their campaign, having recorded just six wins from their opening nineteen league fixtures.

Colliery started the contest brightly and enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges, seeing more of the ball and creating the clearer opportunities early on. Ethan Harrison had the first real chance of the afternoon, meeting a dangerous free-kick delivery but heading narrowly wide of the target.

The visitors fashioned a couple of half-chances before the interval but failed to trouble goalkeeper Ryan Musselwhite. The home side were then left frustrated late in the half when Louis Seddons appeared to be brought down inside the area, only for the referee to wave away appeals for a penalty.

Half-Time: Club Thorne Colliery 0 – 0 Louth Town

Colliery carried their momentum into the second half and came out with real intent. Luke Williams produced a superb delivery into the box for Peterson, but the Louth defence recovered well to deny the opener. Moments later, Alex Kemp came agonisingly close, striking the post after latching onto another well-worked set-piece.

Williams again went close soon after, as the pressure continued to build, but Louth’s back line stood firm. With twenty minutes remaining, Marc Newsham was introduced and almost made the difference, bringing the ball down on the edge of the area before unleashing a powerful volley that was brilliantly turned away by the Louth goalkeeper.

Despite dominating much of the second half and creating the better chances, Colliery were unable to find a breakthrough and were ultimately forced to settle for a point.
