A few changes from Colliery’s 1-1 draw with Selby Town six days prior as the away side came into this game on a six game unbeaten run.

Dearne sat firmly at the top of the table going into the fixture, on a seven game unbeaten run with six wins and just the one draw.

Luke Williams had the first real chance of the game just five minutes in after he broke through on the counter attack for Thorne. He was able to get his shot on target but forced a good save by the Dearne keeper.

Dearne opened the scoring in the 19th minute of the game through a long throw not being dealt with in the area and a volley going past Musselwhite and in off the post.

Just 10 minutes later after no signs of an equaliser from Thorne, Dearne doubled their lead after another set piece was not cleared by the Thorne defence. The ball was played to Owen Fieldsend at the back post to put it in.

The away side struggled to get back into the game as half time was nearing. Musselwhite pulled off a couple really good saves but after 45 minutes the score was 2-0 to Dearne.

Half Time: Dearne & District FC 2-0 Club Thorne Colliery

Club Thorne made three early substitutions in an effort to freshen things up, with Walker, Newsham and Ellison making way for R. Harrison, Muenda and Stobart. The changes added energy, but the game struggled to find any real rhythm after the break.

The second half saw limited chances for either side, with much of the play taking place in the air and in a congested midfield. Both teams battled for control, but clear openings were hard to come by.

Dearne, however, looked the more composed and dominant outfit overall, showing the quality expected from a side sitting at the top of the table. Their organisation and physical presence made it difficult for Thorne to create meaningful opportunities as the game wore on.
