Club Thorne Colliery made just two changes from the goalless draw the previous week, with Dominic Mellor returning to the starting XI in place of Ben Stobart, and Marc Newsham replacing Alex Peterson.
The hosts entered the fixture on the back of a difficult run of form, having failed to win in their previous ten matches, losing seven and drawing three. That run gave the travelling Colliery side confidence heading into the contest.
The game burst into life from the opening whistle, with Thorne carving out a clear opportunity inside the first four minutes. Ethan Harrison found space in the area and forced an excellent save from the South Leeds goalkeeper with a sharp effort.
Despite Thorne’s strong start, it was South Leeds who struck first in the 19th minute, their number seven finishing off a well-worked move to put the hosts ahead against the run of play.
The response from Colliery was immediate. Louis Seddons levelled the scores soon after, arriving at the back post to convert a flowing move that started from goalkeeper Ryan Musselwhite. Momentum swung firmly in the visitors’ favour just two minutes later, as a dangerous delivery into the box was met by Marc Newsham, who fired Thorne into a 2–1 lead.
Thorne pressed for a third before the break. Alex Kemp saw a powerful header brilliantly saved, while James Baxendale dragged a late effort wide of the post moments before the interval.

South Leeds came out with renewed intent after the restart and were rewarded within five minutes. Akram Laslaire broke through on goal and finished clinically to draw the hosts level. The forward was at it again shortly after, rising highest to head home a superb effort into the top corner and complete his brace, swinging the lead back in the home side’s favour.
Colliery responded with changes as Harry Brown and Alexander Peterson were introduced in place of Alex Kemp and Marc Newsham, as the visitors searched for an equaliser.
That moment arrived when Ethan Harrison was hauled down inside the area, leaving the referee with no option but to award a penalty. Luke Williams stepped up and saw his initial effort saved, but reacted quickest to calmly slot home the rebound and make it 3 – 3.
Thorne continued to apply pressure in the closing stages, sensing the chance to take all three points. Louis Seddons fired narrowly over the bar, while Ryan Ellison came agonisingly close in the final moments, dragging his shot just wide after a well-worked attacking move.
A breathless contest ended all square, with both sides feeling they could have taken more from a thrilling encounter.
